Solvent or Degreaser, which to use?

ProTip: Solvent or Super Degreaser.

Question: Why should I use FrogLube Solvent or Super Degreaser?

Answer: To prevent fouling malfunctions. FrogLube recommends you begin with identifying the fouling and where it’s found.

Discussion: Fouling is found inside or on firearms. It’s a mix of contaminants- exploded powder residue, primer, case debris, carbon, copper, lead, environmental items such as dust, dirt or sand, residues and stains from excess lubricants, greases, moisture from condensation, rain, dew or humidity or body sweat and even pocket lint.

Use of Solvent: If it is ‘loose’ and found on the surface, then the FrogLube Solvent is the first choice. It will simply wipe off or brush off with slight agitation. The solvent formula is precisely engineered to target the full spectrum of the loose fouling mix commonly found on firearms. Use abundant amounts to flood the part, lift the loose fouling and wipe it away.  If you are using FrogLube lubricants, you will find it also removes excess FrogLube lubricant. It has minimal ‘degreaser’ capability, so for tougher jobs, you’ll need a degreaser.

Use of Super Degreaser: If the fouling mix is ‘stuck’ to metal, like stubborn, baked on, or built-up carbon cakes from firing many rounds, or it is trapped inside places not easily reachable by cleaning brushes or swabs, then Super Degreaser takes cleaning to the professional level. Super Degreaser is a far more powerful concentrated formula that is designed to break the bonds formed by stubborn fouling as a result of high heat and pressure, in small channels or reciprocating locations. The Super Degreaser can be diluted with water up to a mixture ratio of 10:1 to tailor it to the fouling situation. Super Degreaser is also the choice when you are switching from your previous product to something new. It is a universal cleaner that will clean any commercially available petroleum-based product.

Conclusion: To prevent fouling malfunctions, you should have the right cleaner, for the right purpose, under the right conditions. FrogLube recommends you have both in your range bag and on your cleaning bench.
